Connecting Devices to the Chromeleon Server PC
Connecting Dionex Devices via 10BASE-T DX-LAN

The 10BASE-T DX-LAN network consists of a PC and at least one additional device equipped with a 10BASE-T DX-LAN connector (for example, a DX-600 module, UI20 Universal Interface, or DX-120 Ion Chromatograph). Each device to be connected must have a 10BASE-T DX-LAN interface card installed (refer to Hardware Installation Installing the DX-LAN Card).  When the card is installed, an RJ-45 (telephone-style) connector extends from the opening on the rear panel of the device.

  1. Plug a 10BASE-T DX-LAN cable (P/N 960279) into a port on the Ethernet switch (P/N 061610 in North America; P/N 061655 outside of North America).

     Note:

All of the ports on the Ethernet switch are 10BASE-T. If the network includes any BNC DX-LAN devices, you may need to install a "combo" Ethernet hub (P/N 057938). "Combo" hubs provide both 10BASE-T and BNC ports. To order a "combo" hub, contact your Dionex Service Representative.

  2. Connect the other end of the 10BASE-T cable into the 10BASE-T DX-LAN connector on the rear panel of a 10BASE-T-equipped device.

  3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining 10BASE-T-equipped devices.

 Tips:

The 10BASE-T DX-LAN cable is a Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair cable. Do not substitute a cable of an inferior grade. Failure to use the correct cable will cause a device to lose communication with the host computer.

When using 10BASE-T cabling, you must install an Ethernet switch. If you simply plug the 10BASE-T cable from a device into the connector on the computer’s DX-LAN card, the connection will not work.

 Tips:

The server PC can be connected to any port on the Ethernet switch.
